This week it was Bleeding Cool released the entire slate of new and continuing Marvel titles going into their new Marvel NOW era. This will be the new status quo following the end of Marvel’s Civil War II.
This is also taking place just one year after the beginning of the All-New All-Different Marvel which began following the Secret Wars event in 2015.
Although pitched as New and Different and giving fans a feeling that this would lead to new stories, characters and a new status quo to freshen up Marvel, it kind of continued right where the last Marvel NOW run (Pre-Secret Wars) left off
Although I don’t know Marvel’s thought process behind this and it feels as though Marvel is all over the place with their creative decisions (as well as this as a possible response to the success of DC Rebirth) I want to look at my Top 5 picks for New Titles or Continuity changes that will be taking place within the new Marvel NOW!
The first title on the list is a continuing series from All-New Different Marvel focusing on the adventures of the Ultimate Universe Spider-Man, Miles Morales, as part of the Earth-616 (Main Marvel Continuity) Universe. The interesting change in continuity for this series seems to be that Miles has a new love interest in fellow Wall-Crawler, Spider-Gwen, an alternate universe version of Peter Parker’s old flame Gwen Stacy. Does this mean Gwen will also be coming into Earth-616 permanently? And will this affect Peter Parker in any way?
4) Death of X
Probably once of the most Controversial moves for Marvel NOW is that there seems to be no announced X-Men titles apart from the four part mini series “Death of X”. This is written by two of my favorite writers Charles Soule and Jeff Lemire, with art by Aaron Kuder. It chronicles the events taking place between Secret Wars the start of All-New All- Different Marvel, most notably the death of the adult Cyclops. I am very excited for this tilte and I hope it will branch off into continuing X-titles once it has concluded. I have really been enjoying the X-Men comics and don’t want to see Marvel completely remove them in favor of the Inhumans, as much as I like the Inhumans they really don’t compare to the X-Men.
This book sees Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos at the helm of a Title which Marvel is able to use for the first time in Decades. This sees former team members of All-New All-Different Avengers Ms. Marvel, Nova and Spider-Man (who we seen in a teaser image burning their Avengers cards) teaming with the new Totally Awesome Hulk, Amadeus Cho, Viv Vision (Daughter of Avengers member The Vision) and the time displaced, teen Cyclops from All-New X-Men. This is an amazing opportunity to do something great with probably the most prominent new and younger members of the Marvel Universe and I am excited to see what Marvel does in this title.
2) Infamous Iron Man
The concept alone intrigues me with this book. Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev leave behind International Iron Man for Infamous Iron Man. We don’t yet know the fate of Tony Stark post Civil War II, just that this is the second Iron Man book announced, with the first seeing Riri Williams becoming the Invincible Iron Man. This is also the first big outing for Doom post Secret Wars, and with the tagline of “Where Tony Stark failed, Doom will succeed.” I am completely on board to see where this goes.
1) Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows
Of course this is my Number 1 choice. Gerry Conway and Ryan Stegman return to the Highly successful Secret Wars tie-in, in which we see Peter Parker as Spider-Man, still married to Mary-Jane and with their young daughter in tow who was discovering her own Spider Powers. I don’t know if the daughter is Annie or May as the original Renew you vows saw her called Annie but I am seeing reports that she is called May in this. I am so excited, even if it’s another universe and not the main Marvel continuity, but you never know, maybe we will see them come into the main universe like Superman in the Lois and Clark story at DC.
And listed Below are all the Title that have been announced/leaked for Marvel NOW!
What titles are you excited for and what do you think of Marvel shaking things up again just one year after All-New All-Different Marvel began.
